I just accidentally deleted an ask that I wanted to answer where the anon (of course) asked me if I was afraid of going to Hell. The answer is no, because I don’t believe in one and there is absolutely no proof that one exists.
I also wanted to add something to what I wrote to the anon who assumed I just don’t believe in Christianity. Atheism does not mean “non-Christian.” Well, it does in a sense, but it’s much broader than that. Theism is the belief in god(s). Monotheism is the belief in one god. Polytheism is the belief in multiple gods. Atheism is the belief in no gods. That’s the reason I linked the video in this post.
And let me just add one more thing to the people who say atheists are ignorant, immoral, “evil” or anything else similar. I would gather, from my own experience, that atheists are more informed about religion than even some religious people. That’s how a good portion of us became atheists. Questioning led to research which led to understanding. A LOT of questioning. I mulled over all of this for months; I read countless articles, watched dozens of science and reason documentaries and debates, learned about other sects of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and so forth.
As for being moral, I don’t judge people to eternal damnation and follow that damnation with “But it’s not my place to judge, it’s God’s.”
And if you for one second believe that I’m evil, then that just proves further than you don’t know me. I don’t need to sit here and convince you of how good I may be because it seems you’ve already made your judgment based on the fact that I appreciate science and seek knowledge in reason.
A few months ago I would have been offended if someone said something contradicting my beliefs too, but I would NEVER tell someone I want them to suffer eternal torture.
This may seem more fiery (no pun intended) than my normal posts—even the ones regarding religion—and that’s because people look at things with their eyes closed and then decide to give their input.
As for those of you, like crookedceremonies, who are civil, amiable and open—thank you for regulating my blood pressure.
