forgive-me-father8181 asked: Have you ever felt sorry for, or thought members of your family were less intelligent because they still believe in god, while you're an atheist. I don't know if you've come out to them yet or not...however(and forgive me for saying this, I know it's terrible) but I've found it's hard for me to see members of my family as intelligent beings with common sense or rational thought because they choose to be lead by blind faith instead of using logic and reason to guide their lives. I'm an atheist.
It’s hard. I try to think of myself when I did believe. I wasn’t any less intelligent—I was just led to believe certain things were absolute truth when they were not. Religious indoctrination is so deep that it supersedes rational thinking. So my answer is no, I don’t see them as less intelligent, just less critical.
swalley asked: Ok, I'm kind of confused. Are you against religion as in "organized religion" or the fact that it's basically it's own form of politics, or are you against religion in the sense of believing in something bigger than ourselves? I guess it doesn't really matter since I don't actually know you but I'm curious. I've got kind of a weird view on this kind of stuff so it's fun to hear other people's opinions.
I’m against religions that impose their beliefs onto others AKA trying to make abortion illegal, not allowing same sex couples to marry, forcing their women to completely cover themselves as not to arouse men, etc. What I’m for is the pursuit of truth in EVERYTHING, not just the supernatural. I want to know what’s real and how things really work. I used to believe in a god until I thought critically about my beliefs, read the Bible, and looked more into science. I have many views on many things—far too many to explain here, but periodically someone like you does ask, so I answer. If you’re curious and have some time on your hands, you can look through my Tumblr for past posts on the topic. :)

It’s funny ‘cause it’s true.
This is what religion did to me when I was a kid. It’s from a “Biblezine”, which is the New Testament presented like a magazine, interspersed with wisdom like this.
Unbelievably, when I first saw this at age 12, I didn’t think much of it. Religion made me a moron.

consciousness is an allusion. The soul, the energy that we possess doesn’t die. It must go somewhere It adds itself to the earths collective. Spirituality does not need consciousness. But consciousness needs spirituality.
I think you meant illusion. An allusion is making a reference to something. Regardless, where is this so-called soul? Does it give you thoughts? Does it help you perceive? How is it measured?
Consciousness is just awareness. Awareness is achieved through perception, through our senses. Our brain deciphers the information we receive through our eyes, ears, skin, tongue, nose, etc. Without a functioning brain, we do not have senses. Once our brain stops working, our consciousness stops existing. There is nothing to compute our experiences, nothing to store our memories and nothing to create awareness.
Before our brain began forming in the womb, we had no consciousness because we had no brain. In other words, before then, we did not exist. We’re born, we live and we die and after our brain dies, so do we.

This argument is stupid, people need to comprehend that there is a difference between man-made religion and spirituality. No faith does not require ignorance. In my opinion that statement in itself is an ignorant comment. I don’t believe in religion I believe in spirituality. People use religion to justify their hate, that doesn’t mean the religion is hateful. Like said in the other statement “Religion has bad followers” they’re called extremists.
What is spirituality? Do you believe that consciousness can exist outside of the brain? If so, transported by what vessel and by what means? Disembodied neurons firing at their own will? Charged by what energy? Translated by what system?
