My grandma would’ve laughed right now and said “See? I told you!” She was always making jokes that she was old and her time was almost up. A complete juxtaposition between her words and her liveliness. She would’ve said “Well that’s just my luck isn’t it? Go into the hospital for bronchitis and don’t come out?” I can hear her voice saying it. I can see her expression and the pause she would’ve taken before she sighed and laughed. I lived with her for the first 14 years of my life. She meant so much to me and she knew it. Her honesty was grounding. Her brashness was endearing. And her humor was everything.
One moment I’m talking to you on FaceTime and a couple days later you’re in the hospital. And now you’re gone. At least I can be sure that the last thing we said to each other was I love you.
